| Uploading FAQs - How
do I publish my site using FTP? |
| If you do not already have
an FTP software yet ,
we
recommend that you download WS
FTP LE by clicking here .
If you are using Front Page, you
should NOT use FTP to upload your
files as it will corrupt the Front
Page Extensions installed on your
hosting space. For information
on uploading using Front Page, click
here.
The
instructions below are specific
to WS-FTP, however, most FTP applications
or functions should be similar.
|

After downloading and installing WS-FTP, launch
the program. The first
screen you will see is the
Session Properties Window

there.

When you have entered all
settings, click Apply
(7 at left) and then click
OK (8 at left).
WS-FTP will then connect
to our server and display
the main control screen
shown below.

|

The control screen shown at left is broken into
two parts. The right
side (1 at left) is the
remote system file area.
This shows the files on
your area of the web server.
The left side (4 at left)
shows the files on your
local computer. On
both sides you can move
up and down through directories.
To move up a level, click
on the green arrow at top
of the window (5 at left).
To open a directory, double
click on the directory.
To upload your files you
will first need to double
click on the |
public_html folder in the right hand
window (2 at left).
The directory display line
(3 at left) will change to
read /httpdocs. You
are now ready to upload files.
On the left side, move through directories on
your local computer until you find the files which
make up your website. When the files are
displayed, single click on a file to select and
highlight it. Once the file is highlighted,
click the arrow in the center of the control panel
that points right (the bottom arrow). This
will cause a copy of the file to be uploaded to
our server. Continue selecting and transferring
files until all files that make up your website
are transferred. When finished, click Close
to disconnect from the server and then click Exit
to close WS FTP.
Occasionally you may lose your connection to the
server while transferring files. If this
happens, click Close then the button will change
back to say Connect. Click Connect and the
Session Properties window will reopen. Click
OK to reconnect. |
